✾ What is trickster mode?
In certain Homestuck flash games, pressing the keyboard command ctrl+t will unlock an Easter Egg affectionately called "Trickster Mode", which causes John to do change into or do something silly/ridiculous. (The only exception being [s] Kanaya: Return to core, in which John does not appear at all.) Full information on Trickster Mode can be found here.
✾ Yeah, I'm not reading the Wiki page. So what's with the lollipop?
This account is for Trickster Mode John as he appears in the flash [S] YOU THERE. BOY. (the first flash in which Trickster Mode appeared). This is why he looks the way he does. I have made two modifications to his appearance that differ from his "canon" appearance: bright pink glasses and bright sky-blue eyes. (which will likely be his text color if I ever have to do a text post with him?)
✾ Cool story bro. Now how does this John differ from normal John?
There are a lot of trickster kid headcanons and portrayals out there. The most popular one seems to be that they're sadistic, evil, and intent upon taking their "alpha's" place. By killing them. This is not how I will be playing Trickster John. He is creepy, there's no denying this but really he's just a sillier, sugar-hyped, slightly creepier version of his "Alpha" self. He loves games, pranks, sweets, and spends a good deal of his time giggling or smiling. Unlike "Alpha" John, Trickster John loves cake. There are certain other aspects of his personality that anyone who knows John Egbert would find to be odd. Trickster John is less easily flustered, less prone to irrational fits, more prone to acting/speaking without thinking, more manipulative (in his own...weird John-like way), more agreeable, and more cheerful (how those last two are possible is anyone's guess).
At his core, Trickster John is basically a glitch. As a result, when he talks his voice is prone to getting "stuck" or "skipping", sounding similar to a scratched CD. In addition, his voice is higher pitched and slightly more warped sounding than "Alpha" John. It's not just his voice that portrays his glitch status, however, at times he may seem oddly pixellated. It's no challenge for Trickster John to do things such as float, walk up walls, pull things (usually sweets) out of seemingly nowhere, or wind up in places that he shouldn't with no reasonable explanation.
